Camp Counselor Employment

Camp counselors are integral to the success of a youth camp. They ensure the safety and overall well-being of each participant, act as role models to the youth, and are responsible for implementing many of the camp activities. A counselor’s job can be a life-changing opportunity for both the counselor and the youth participants.

Job Requirements

  • For dorm counselor positions—be available to stay in campus housing (some positions require availability 24/7 as needed during a camp session).
  • Be at least 18 years old by May 31 (some positions require a minimum age of 21).
  • Be no more than 28 years old by September 1.
  • Pass a criminal background check.
  • Obtain a Student Ecclesiastical Endorsement.
    • As a condition of employment, LDS employees agree to follow standards of conduct consistent with qualifying for temple privileges.
    • All employees are expected to be role models of a life that combines spiritual values and personal integrity, and to conduct their work in a professional manner consistent with the values espoused by the university and the Church. Compliance with the Church Educational System Honor Code, Dress and Grooming Standards, and Residential Living Standards is mandatory.
  • Before beginning work, complete online Protecting Minor Youth training.
  • Before beginning work, present an unexpired government-issued photo ID to our employment office to verify your ability to legally work in the United States of America.
  • Before beginning work, present your Social Security card to our employment office (an IRS requirement for all BYU employees).
  • Be able to provide bank account information to receive direct deposit payments.

Dance Counselor

If you are sociable, responsible, and like working with youth, this opportunity is for you! Boost your resume with interactive experience. Ryogoku High School English Immersion Program

Day Camp Counselor: $10/hr.

A multicultural experience that will look great on your resume! Counselors take charge of groups of 10 Japanese teens while they participate in ESL classroom activities on campus, eat lunch at the Cannon Center, and tour campus & Provo locations. Various shifts are available between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Each shift lasts from two to five and a half hours. Some shifts include lunch.

myFamily History Youth Camp

July 24–28, 2017

Dorm Counselor: $400

Help teens learn to love family history work at this youth camp held in conjunction with BYU’s annual Conference on Family History and Genealogy. Counselors will assist in a variety of classes, workshops, activities, and a trip to the Family History Library in Salt Lake City.

Academy of LDS Dentists Youth Program

Friday, August, 18, 7:00 a.m.–8:30 p.m.
Saturday, August 19, 7:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

Day Camp Counselor: $8/hr.

Counselors supervise and positively interact with youth ages 6 to 18 while at Lagoon on Friday and Seven Peaks Water Park on Saturday. Counselors must be available both days. A BYU van card is required. Lunch is provided both days and dinner on Friday.
